Sorry about blank post. Hope you are having a wonderful day!
This week I was able to stop by ArtPrize in downtown Grand Rapids. Once again I was disappointed by the amount of "craft" art I saw. While I was there I saw nothing that seemed worthy of a vote. I am glad that this year there will be two different kinds of judging. One type of judging is like we have always had, public review. However, this year they also added a professional judges. It will be interesting to see how the public review matches the professional judges.
If you would like to see what ArtPrize is like you can go to their website... http://www.artprize.org
And if you live in Grand Rapids go look at the art and see what you think for yourself.

Last week I went to Expo Chicago with Grand Valley. There I saw a great number of different artist's works. One of my favorite pieces was by Tony Cragg called "Around the Block". He is an image I took at the Expo of the sculpture.

Also, while I was there I had the opportunity to be a part of a different artist's work. This artist is a photographer. Everywhere she goes she takes pictures of anyone who volunteers their photo to her project. She also has a website where you can see images she has taken. Here is a link to he website. http://www.tintypeportraits.com
Over all the Expo was huge spectacle with lots of less then artistic work but every once in a while you would come across a piece that make the trip to Chicago worth it.

On Tuesday, I was able to substitute teach for a 3-D professor at Grand Valley University. The 3-D class is a foundations class at GVSU, so it is full of new students. It was interesting to see how the new students struggled and worked through the issues they came across while working with a new material. A lot of the students needed help thinking about art in the 3-D and not 2-D. Most of them were making flat objects with no form or objects that were only captivating from one view. It only took me showing them how it needs to be viewed from all sides to get their creativity going. I really enjoyed my time working with the students and it help me realize I am in the right field of study. Now I can't wait to get in a classroom and teach every day.
