Philosophy for Teaching Technology Based Art.

Art has been becoming more and more technologically based throughout the last few decades. Therefore, it is important for students learning art to be immersed into technology based art in their classes. Through technology students can find different and exciting ways to express themselves through art and further their creativity.

Creativity and Art Education

Creativity is the use of your imagination to explore, discover, and experiment with different ideas and material. Creativity can't be taught. Creativity can only be encouraged and nurtured. A teacher can teach how to use the different materials but not how to be creative with them. Creativity is important because it is a way to express yourself that is entirely your own. In a world where youth are constantly being entertained through media and gaming consoles and advertisements it is important for them to use their own imagination. Being able to use your imagination is a valuable tool that can help you in any part of your life. This is because creativity is a wonderful tool for solving any problem. Technology is new and has a lot of uncharted territory. This allows for a wider range of opportunity to do something that hasn't been done before. Because of this, technology also takes a greater amount of creativity to come up with new ways of using the technology we have now and coming up with new technologies.
Here is an example of a video I made using found footage and Max (a video computer program). This is the first time I had ever used Max. I decided to use this video because it is an example of how there is still room for creativity and growth in knowledge on how to use Max.

  1. I like that your example demonstrates personal experience and the need for growth in yourself. It also supports your position very well.
The point where you stated "creativity can only be encouraged and nurtured" really resonated with me.

  2. I really enjoy your use of video as an example. Your thought process is short and to the point. Good work.

  3. As Paul is having us think about. How does this blog space affect the community at large? What does this video say about you personally and philosophically? Should the video be in this space as an affectation of virtual space or as a juxtaposition of the metaphysical in the psycho-geography of the internet.
