Comments on Cat Soup
What
is this animation about (big idea/key concepts/ themes, etc)?
While watching Cat Soup I was confused by
it’s message. I did notice a few references to different religions. However,
there were also a lot of references to death and the struggle to overcome
death. Then at the end when they all ”turned off” it seemed to convey that no
matter what we do to over come death it still gets us in the end. Also there
seemed to be a lot of gluttony through out the movie. The main cat kept eating
no matter what the cost, like when he slices the pig to eat.
What
art making strategies (conceptual/ technical/ visual) does the artist use
to illustrate the theme?
Throughout the video the artist used
animation as their medium for creating this art. They also took ideas from
historical art. I was reminded of Hokusai during the wave section where all the
water froze up. All of the characters seemed to by drawn in a very traditional Japanese
art style.
Give
a personal response or ideas on how the animation (cat soup) might help you
create your own animation.
I really don’t know if this video will
help me at all. The whole time I was very confused and grossed out by all of
the blood. I think there is some nice aspects to the quality of the animation and
to the “anime” type of art but it really isn’t my style.
